MTP for Deformed baby

When a baby is being formed, it’s a complex procedure akin to manufacturing of a detailed machine with innumerable parts which need to align perfectly. Some irregularities however do occur and we can now pick them up with help of imaging like USG and MRI around 18-24 weeks of pregnancy. A malformed baby is a huge psychological setback to the expectant parents and it needs a dedicated counselling session to evaluate the severity of the anomaly of deformity. Some anomalies are not very debilitating and the baby can predictably lead a good life. Some deformities are severe and are known to severely impact the Quality of Life of the baby when born. Careful selection of the babies which need termination based on USG or MRI report is a ethical as well as practical decision taken jointly by the doctors and the parents after due consideration to all the aspects of the case. Medical management is preferred for the termination with surgical delivery as the last recourse.
